Company Description :
The Oiharu company, located in the town of Oshu, offers a wide range of cast iron teapots of various shapes and decorations, always made with that skill and refinement that characterizes the art of “Nambu Tekki”.
Appearing more than 900 years ago, the traditional cast iron “Nambu Tekki” experienced a boom during the Edo period, in the Nambu domain (also called Morioka).
This part of Japan is now called Iwate Prefecture and belongs to the Tohoku region (north-east of the island of Honshu)
In the 17th century, the production of cast iron objects in the region developed due to a growing need for tea utensils.
Indeed, it was during this period that the consumption of tea, previously reserved for the wealthier classes, spread throughout Japanese society and it became a common drink.
Having become a local specialty, the art of “Nambu Tekki” has acquired great fame thanks to its timelessly beautiful teapots.
Today, the production of cast iron teapots testifies to the longevity of Japanese know-how, which has managed to maintain its traditions by adapting to modern life.
While retaining the clean lines and subtle decorations that characterize it, this craft continues to be renewed by offering contemporary color nuances and objects that are easy to use in everyday life.
