In Japan, Fukurokuju (福禄寿) (from Japanese fuku, “happiness”; roku, “wealth”; and ju, “longevity”) is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Shinto mythology. He is the god of wealth, longevity, virility and wisdom. He is represented as an old man with a bald and elongated head, wearing a white beard, leaning on a cane adorned with a roll of documents and holding a fan (ogi) in the other hand. Fukurokuju is accompanied by cranes. He embodies the Antarctic star. Fukurokuju is often confused with Jurōjin who is accompanied by a black deer.
