A peony, botan in Japanese, and birds adorn this magnificent fragrance burner with a monochromatic design. The dark blue gradient on a white background and the shiny enamel give it a sober and luxurious appearance at the same time. In Japan, peonies are a symbol of wealth, prosperity and good luck. They are offered to wish good success in studies and business.
Made using Kutani ceramic techniques, the Botan perfume burner is an object of worship, a precious gift and an essential part of home decoration in Japan. Fill it with rice ash so that you can stick the Japanese incense sticks in it. Having no bamboo support, they then burn completely without leaving a trace.
About Kutani ceramics
Since the middle of the 17th century, ceramics have been made in Kutani town, Ishikawa prefecture in Japan. It is characterized on the one hand by patterns painted in gold, a material abundant in the region, and on the other hand, by its technique of superposition in thick layers of five colors, called go-sai: red, yellow, green, purple and dark blue. The designs that are painted are often bold representations of nature. It’s always about a rich and luxurious style.
